Copenhagen, Gdańsk or Tallinn: which for a weekend with friends?

Three cities that suit a long weekend from the Nordic countries, and what separates them. This page gives no prices or flight times, because they change; check your own airport and dates before you decide.

Copenhagen

Easy to love: bikes, harbour baths, Tivoli and good food. Two or three days are enough. The catch: it is one of the dearer cities in Europe, so check prices before you vote.

Gdańsk

A rebuilt old town on the Baltic coast, with the European Solidarity Centre and the beach at Sopot a short train ride away. Usually cheaper than the Nordic capitals. The catch: flights depend on where you start, so check your own airport.

Tallinn

A medieval old town on the World Heritage list, compact, with the creative Telliskivi district and a ferry to Helsinki if you want a second city. The catch: cold and dark in winter, unless you like that.

How to choose between them

A weekend is short, so the catch matters: dearer, harder to reach from your airport, or cold and dark if it is winter. Pick the one the whole group can say Yes or Maybe to, and let the catch break any tie.
