About
What Awayfolk is
Awayfolk is a free web app where a group plans a trip together. Ideas, polls on where and when, a day-by-day plan with a map, packing lists, bookings and shared expenses sit in one trip that everyone can open. You can connect your own Claude or ChatGPT to help. Awayfolk is made in Norway.
Who it is for
Friends, families and colleagues planning a trip together: a city weekend, a cabin, a ski trip, a bachelorette, a family reunion or a julebord. It suits the trips where one person usually ends up doing all the planning in the group chat. You can also plan a surprise trip, keeping the destination secret from the others, with clues, a countdown and sealed envelopes that open on time.
What is free
Core planning is free for the whole group: invitations, ideas, polls, the day plan, the map, packing lists, bookings, shared expenses and editing after the trip. Each trip also includes ten saved price estimates and one tailored packing attempt, shared by the group; after that you can still enter prices and packing items yourself. New Trip Pass sales are paused, and earlier purchases keep their benefits.
Connecting your own AI is free; your AI service’s own plan and limits apply.
How friends join and vote
The organiser shares one invitation link. A friend who opens it can type just a first name and vote on the trip’s ideas, with no account; signing in on the same link later keeps those votes. To join the trip itself, people sign in with Google or an email code.
Polls on where and when have their own link: everyone signs in and answers Yes, Maybe or No on each proposal, and the organiser confirms one. The trip then carries on in the same place.
The AI connection
Awayfolk works inside Claude and ChatGPT. The connection is Awayfolk’s own: your AI signs in to Awayfolk with OAuth, and you approve it on an Awayfolk page. By default it can use the trips you are on; on the AI page you can limit it to chosen trips, or take back all AI access.
It can read trips and save ideas, bookings and packing items, and add proposals to a poll. It cannot answer a poll or confirm a choice, it never sees another traveller’s private lists, and it books and pays for nothing. Other AI apps, such as Gemini and Grok, are not verified.
Language
Awayfolk is in English. Dates and numbers follow where you are, so a visitor in the United States sees American dates and starts a new trip in US dollars.
Where your data lives
Trips and photos are stored with Cloudflare in Europe. Sign-in goes through Auth0 and Google, and email codes are sent through Resend. Product measurement uses PostHog in the EU, without names, email addresses or trip content, and there is no advertising tracking.
A trip is kept until its owner deletes it, and you can delete your account at any time. The privacy page has the details.
What it does not do
Awayfolk does not book or sell travel: suggestions are ideas, and you book with the provider. It does not move money; it records each expense and who owes whom, and you settle up with the payment app you already use. It does not read your email inbox; bookings get in when you add them or share a confirmation with your AI.
And it is not in the App Store or Google Play: it runs in the browser, and can be added to your home screen.
