Guide
A Charleston girls’ trip
Stay on the historic peninsula and plan two nights: a morning walk past Rainbow Row to the Battery, shopping on King Street, an afternoon at Folly Beach and one big Lowcountry dinner, booked weeks ahead. In spring, book the stay first. A rough budget is $600 to $1,300 per person for two nights, before travel.
Charleston is a walking city: pastel houses, old streets, shopping on King Street and some of the best restaurants in the South, with beaches twenty minutes away. Plan two nights, one big dinner and an afternoon at Folly Beach or Sullivan’s Island. Spring weekends are busy, so book the stay and the dinner first.
The example trip below has the places on a map, ready to copy.
Where to stay
The historic peninsula is the place to be: anywhere between Marion Square and the Battery is walkable. Upper King is livelier, with bars and restaurants close together; South of Broad is quiet and residential. Mount Pleasant, across the river, is cheaper and close to Shem Creek and the beaches, but you will need rides into town.
The classics
Rainbow Row on East Bay Street, the Battery and White Point Garden, the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park and the City Market. Shopping and bars on King Street. Dinner at a Lowcountry restaurant such as Husk.
Sunset at Shem Creek, a walk over the Ravenel Bridge, the ferry to Fort Sumter, and the Angel Oak on Johns Island.
A 3-day plan
Friday: arrive, welcome drinks on Upper King. Saturday: an early walk past Rainbow Row to the Battery, the fountain and the market, then an afternoon at Folly Beach, and the big dinner. Sunday: the Angel Oak, a long brunch and home.
Charleston is best on foot in the morning, before the heat and the crowds.
| Day | Daytime | Evening |
|---|---|---|
| Friday | Arrive and settle in | Welcome drinks on Upper King |
| Saturday | Rainbow Row, the Battery, the fountain and the market, then Folly Beach | The big dinner |
| Sunday | The Angel Oak and a long brunch | Travel home |
What to book early
The stay first, then the Saturday dinner: popular restaurants open reservations weeks ahead. Fort Sumter ferry tickets can be booked online. Add each booking to the trip as you make it, so everyone sees the times on their phones.
Budget per person
A rough range for two nights is $600 to $1,300 per person, before travel. Lodging on the peninsula is the biggest cost, then dinners. Agree on a number before booking, and on whether the big dinner is split evenly.
Scale this range to your group and your nights
| Trip | Rough range | Biggest costs |
|---|---|---|
| Two nights, Friday to Sunday | $600 to $1,300 | Lodging on the peninsula, then dinners |
What to pack
Comfortable shoes for cobblestones and uneven sidewalks, a dress for dinner, a swimsuit and a towel for the beach, sunscreen and a light layer for air-conditioned restaurants. Things only one person needs to bring go on the shared list with a name.
Plan together
Invite everyone to one trip from a single link and ask each person to add the one thing they most want to do. The ideas with the most interest go on the days and the map. On the trip, the Today view shows the day’s plan on everyone’s phone.
Splitting the money
Record the stay, the dinner and the rides in Awayfolk with the payer and how each is split: evenly, or by exact amounts. It works out who owes whom and records repayments. Awayfolk does not move money; settle up with Venmo, Zelle or whatever your group uses.
